MRCE focuses on the design of barriers for containment of waste and contaminated material and for groundwater cutoff. Cutoff walls are used to contain waste in place, enabling capping, excavation or construction in areas of contaminated or high water levels. The group performs analysis, design, contract documents, and construction inspection for hydraulic barriers including:

• Slurry trenches and slurry walls
• Cement-bentonite walls (C-B Walls)
• Soil-Cement bentonite structures (S-CB structures)
• Plastic concrete walls
• Frozen ground
